Pairing: Eunhyuk (Super Junior) & OC
Summary: Eunhyuk and his wife of 6 years, Gayoung, celebrate their 6 year anniversary despite her fight against cancer.
Lee Gayoung sat down on the couch, her body physically worn out from coming down the stairs. Sighing, she watched her small dog jump into her lap and kiss her hands.
“This is getting scary fast,” she thought to herself while mindlessly petting the dog.
“Jagi~ya~!” came a singsong voice from the entrance.
Gayoung turned, trying not to disturb the nestled dog, and watched her husband of 6 years come into the living room. His gummy smile spread across his face, causing her to lose her breath again.
Lee Hyukjae, better known as Super Junior’s Eunhyuk, quickly moved to sit in front of his wife.
“Are you okay?” he asked worriedly, checking over her body to see if she was hurt anywhere.
“I’m okay,” she said. Inside she knew she wasn’t. She was dying. Coming to the last stretch before the cancer eating away at her insides finally finished its job.
He held her eyes, searching for something and not liking what he was seeing. “Why are you out of breath sitting down?”
Smiling, Gayoung gently pushed Eunhyuk’s forehead with her hand. “Pa~bo!” she said with a giggle. “It’s you. Every time I see you I lose my breath. You never believed me?”
Eunhyuk’s iconic smile spread across his face, but didn’t quite reach his eyes. Under his delightment there was sadness and a worry so large, all of China couldn’t shoulder it.
“It’s okay, I promise. It’s just more obvious now…” Gayoung’s voice tapered off, not wanting to say the dreaded word. They had a promise to not say the word; to focus on the happy things and creating wonderful memories in peace.
“Will you be okay for going out tonight?” Eunhyuk asked, worry showing up on his chiseled face.
Gayoung nodded, murmuring in agreement. “I’ll be fine. I just need to rest before hand.”
“Okay, but if you aren’t you better tell me. I don’t want you pushing your limits.” He stared at her pointedly, his serious face on. Gayoung nodded in agreement. “Fine then. I have to leave for another schedule after changing. Are you going to be okay by yourself?”
“Pa~bo!” she said again with another gentle smack on his face. “Go get dressed and make money. Can’t have you becoming a poor beggar dancing on the streets can we?”
With a chuckle Eunhyuk left her there giggling to herself. He could see the exhaustion in her face and the frailness of her body fighting for its life yet losing. Sighing, he changed his clothes. Sitting at their vanity area, he wrote down a list of things he needed to get done before their anniversary date. When he came out, Gayoung was lying down, the dog curled up next to her. Her eyes were closed and breathing a little more shallow than he would have liked. He smoothed the hair out of her face, kissing her on the lips lightly before leaving.
After Gayoung heard the door close, she opened her eyes looking around the apartment. Sitting up, she opened the chest/side table and pulled out a box. She turned on her favorite playlist and got to work. Finishing her present for Eunhyuk, she placed it in a box and wrapped it in paper covered in tiny monkeys.
An alarm went off in the bedroom. Gayoung got up, heading there. She turned off the alarm, took her medicine, and changed. She got dressed in a black dress that came to her knees. It had long sleeves to help hide the iv marks and other scars. She left her hair down to frame her face. Sitting down, she managed slipping on some black pantyhose. Adorning her face with simple make-up, she sat at the edge of the bed and glanced at the clock.
“It really does take me longer now...” she mumbled to herself. Getting ready had taken three times longer than it used to. Deciding to add a little bling, she grabbed her favorite necklace. A small silver chain ran around her neck. Resting above her chest was a small pendant. It was custom ordered. A small monkey with a gummy sat, holding a giant flower to his nose sniffing it delicately. Fingering the small charm, Gayoung smiled to herself.
She looked up into the mirror and felt time stand still. She could see where the cancer had made her abnormally skinny. “Skin and bones” she said quietly to herself.
“But beautiful skin and bones,” said a voice from behind her at the same time arms wrapped around her waist.
She wanted to cry, but promised herself she would wait until the night was over. Crying wore her out, and she didn’t want to lose what energy she had.
That night, she went on the most romantic date she’d ever had. Eunhyuk took her to an outdoor restaurant next to the Han River. That sat at the edge of the water, drinking and laughing like there was nothing wrong. She wanted to walk along the water as they used to, but decided that sitting at a bench nearby was close enough.
Arriving home, she found that her home had been completely decorated and the dog missing.
“Do you like it?” Eunhyuk whispered from behind her, causing shivers to race up and down her spine. She nodded, entering further into the apartment. There were roses and candles everywhere. On the living room wall was a banner congratulating them on their anniversary. It was signed by the members.
Turning she looked at her husband. The shadows danced across his square jawline. Gayoung gasped, as she felt a need start coursing through her blood. Staring at Eunhyuk in his suit, watching her carefully, she wanted to jump him. She wanted to place her lips along his jawline and pay homage to it like none had before.
He sensed the change in her mood, his eyes growing bright and his voice becoming husky.
“When you look at me like that…” he stopped himself, averting his gaze to the floor.
“What?” He didn’t answer. Stepping closer, she lifted his face to meet her eyes and asked again softly.
“I have trouble controlling myself when you look at me like that.”
“Really?” He nodded. “Well, don’t stop yourself then.”
He eyes showed surprise. He searched her face, cupping her cheeks softly. He gave in, placing his lips on hers in a sweet kiss. Gayoung sighed in content, sliding her arms around his waist and leaning in for more. He made a small growl in the back of his throat and the kiss intensified. Breaking from the kiss for air, Eunhyuk smirked at his wife and picked her up princess style.
Walking to the bedroom, he kissed her a few more time. Before moving to the bed, he gently undressed her and then himself. Lying on top of Gayoung, he felt his weight come home between her legs. As they made love the only sounds were sounds of love.
*A Week Later*
“Eunhyuk-ah, if you need anything call me. It doesn’t matter what time. Hyung’s here for you.” Leeteuk said with tears in his eyes. He hugged his dongsaeng and member, wanting to take all his pain onto himself. Prince Manager patted Leetuek’s arm to get his attention and they solemnly left. Eunhyuk sat down, in his black suit, and stared at the picture on the altar next to him. Gayoung’s smiling face was staring back at him. It was taken before the cancer completely ravaged her body and he felt the tears start running down his cheeks again.
Eunhyuk walked through the front door. Choco greeted him, as usual, but wasn’t as happy and bouncy. Eunhyuk picked up the dog, cuddling it against his chest. Sitting on the floor against the couch, he held the dog and cried. He could smell Gayoung’s scent still lingering. She the places she sat, the things she did. Looking over, he saw a package sticking out from under one of the blankets.
Pulling it out, he saw it was covered in tiny monkeys. Opening it, he found a giant book with a picture of Gayoung and himself making silly faces on the front. He flipped it open. There was an envelope pasted to the first page. Carefully pulling out the papers inside, he found a letter from Gayoung. As he read the letter, he started crying more.
My Dear Monkey Husband,
I love you so much. I will always love you. If you’re reading this I have left you. I’m sorry. I would’ve preferred staying by your side forever, but it is not meant to be. This book I made for you. I was going to give it to you for our anniversary, but I decided to surprise you after the worst had happened. Inside you’ll find our memories. I’ve put both happy and sad ones in here, because all of them are important and precious to me. I hope this helps you in your grieving. I just want to know how much I loved you. I know it’ll be hard for a while, but you’ll be okay. I promise. You know I never break my promises, right?
Love your wife,
PS Don’t cry on Choco; the fur will get all curly again.
